Dips and dots, French berry thoughts
Dips and dots, French berry thoughts
Mixed media on wood panel with embroidery
I paint with oil and wax technique which allows me to scrape, embed, layer and keep working into the surface of the painting. It is a little like printmaking mixed with painting. Many interesting impressions can be achieved in this process. It is a bit of a surprise and it becomes a way for me to troubleshoot throughout the painting. Do I like something, do I want to keep a section and get rid of another? All things are possible but only one outcome can be achieved. To top off the process of oil and wax, I enjoy stitching directly into the surface of the board. This allows something physical and concrete within the surface which was worked with such ephemeral documentation.
The embroidery stitch used is referred to as a “French dot” and this too is where I arrived at the title for this piece. I hope too that the title brings you to something akin to a delightful meal with friends. A friendly and familiar place that allows you to walk away full of good foods and always full on beautifully rich conversation.
