An artist always, I was allowed to make messes as a kid. I loved art in high school and kept with it at the University of Oklahoma where I received my BFA in painting, and a minor in art history. I never felt completely finished and I wanted to teach so I continued with art at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. There I entered a textile program with the openness to be very inter-disciplinary. I completed my MFA in textiles and I began to seek a “gig”. What I found was an interest in all aspects of art— display, public engagement, and the social power of art. I took a job working in arts administration and now I find myself working on my art in a way that is very common and personal, through clothing and through manipulation of fibers/textiles.

My knitting machine is my muse. This machine has taken me for rides; casting the shuttle left and right helps me write. It is my color mixing station and a space where I intuit the way to move forward. I am able to create something from nothing. Using a thread, a string, and force into being a fabric- total magic every single time. I play, I listen, I feel and impulse the motions into the design, texture and additional fibers. Musically speaking my textiles arrange themselves into a length, a song, a poem or even a short melody. This mix master combines with my love for clothing and voila-what you see on this site. Often the clothing born of this machine turn into characters and lengthy narratives that play out in spaces that I have created. I wish I were the type to stick to just one thing, but I create in more dimensions than one or two. Please explore and see if any of these realms resonate with you.

But really who am I anyway? I have a human form that arrived on this odd planet in the 80s- pegged as a Texan early on and now living as far north as I can possibly go. I reside in Madison, WI but slowly worked by way here via stops in Oklahoma and St. Louis, MO. My heart is attached to all these places. My heart is also firmly attached to my husband and child who are here to help keep me focused as well as to pull me a little off course in the day to day. They are the melody to my melancholy and my surprise repeat kept on upbeat. I love all things textile related and my connections to each human encountered along the thread.
