Oil and wax on wood panel with embroidered elements
This is 12" x 12" oil and wax painting on wood panel. In addition to oil and wax medium this painting has hand embroidery added through the surface. Faint shades of purple dash in and out of the canvas and occasionally end in pronounced French knots. My process involves layering and painting primarily in abstraction. Primary interest is paid to the color choice and allowing the wax medium to create interesting mergers of space. The meditative process of embroidering helps me to condense and find the ideas in the piece. This process is finalized with the choice of title- here the title pokes poetically at my memories of middle school science class and learning about clouds and how weather events occur.
The mass of moisture that brings about rain is in and of itself a bit of a poem. The cycle of water falling, absorbing and then falling again has been something I have tried to explain to our child. She may get more out of PBS, but I get something out of the creation of the painting.
