Courtney Henson Brienen- Artist + Anthropologist

Courtney Henson Brienen- Artist + Anthropologist

An introduction for myself, the brand and my sense of life as I know it. I am hopeful that these things will resonate with you; please reach out if you are part of my community! This introvert wants to know you.

I am what I refer to as a textile completionist (meaning I keep collecting until I have it all!), historian, punner, and general lover of oddities. Let’s talk about Leila’s Hair Museum, Theremin and quirky inventions. These are intrigues that if I got to live another seven lives, I would tackle- but for now just look and learn! Feminism, yes please! Digger and saver too, fascinated by the anthropology of what we throw away/give away and wear. This is my work in all of its forms. I collect, I manage the collection and then create and synthesize my findings like any artistic scientist would. I make something one off to land on the appropriate owner.

Who is the wearer of my work? They are the chef’s, world travelers, appreciators of art, and nature lover alike. Do they all look, think, act the same? Absolutely not— we are a world of solid contradictions, but we can speak very loudly that we are approachable, that we can converse no matter which side you may typically fall on, that we can hear each other out. The warmth wrapped around your throat is code for this willingness to speak with honesty and integrity. Each of us has a passion, a reason and it is worth exploring and conveying those experiences to others who may not have been either so lucky or so chosen. If you can afford to choose your wardrobe, then you can not afford to close your ears to those who may not be able to do the same. Maintain your respectful attitude while respecting your wearables, where they come from and who makes them.
